Three restaurants in our MIdcoast Maine town have made the papers lately. We thought we’d share the news.
The first is the perennial favorite, Red’s Eats, an actual lobster shack serving its famous lobster rolls. This small building is tucked up on the main corner in downtown Wiscasset just 3 miles from our hotel. Red’s eats has been serving food from their window for 83 years and has won numerous awards. Just recently Culture Trip named it one of the best lobster restaurants in Maine. Red’s has also been featured in Zimmern’s List on Food Network.
The Barnhouse Grill and Pub
Much newer to the scene than Red’s Eats is the Barnhouse Grill and Pub. Opened just last year in what was a fish market, the restaurant has already gained a following. The Portland Press Herald recently published a glowing write up of the restaurant which serves American and Mexican comfort food. Located within walking distance of our hotel, we enjoy sitting at their outdoor patio.
Little Village Bistro
The Little Village Bistro has been so popular since they opened their doors in 2015 that reservations were a must if you hoped to get a seat. We ate there a few times when we could plan ahead and always enjoyed it. The Bistro has made news recently for reasons that may surprise some of our regular guests. They have closed their restaurant and “in April, the Bickfords will open Midcoast Provisions, a market-style service offering meals, dinner kits, and locally curated items for pick-up and delivery as an alternative to dining out.” This Lincoln County News Article goes into the reasons why they’re making the change, it’s one of the many ways local businesses are adapting to the realities of Covid.
Finally, while it’s not a restaurant, Big Al’s is famous in Midcoast Maine and many of our regular customers are fond of it. Big Al’s has closed their doors for good after 35 years.
