The Damariscotta Oyster Celebration is Thursday, June 13th to Saturday June 15th.
The event celebrates an oyster culture dating back to 200 B.C., the communities of the Damariscotta River Region invite oyster lovers from around the world to Maine for the second annual Damariscotta Oyster Celebration, June 13 -15, 2019.
Maine’s Damariscotta River and estuaries produce a unique oyster crop that is recognized around world for diversity of flavor and quality. The Damariscotta Oyster Celebration was spearheaded by an alliance of Damariscotta oyster farmers to educate and inspire oyster culinary innovations in food, drink and culture.
The three-day celebration kicks off on Thursday, June 13, with chefs from North America competing in the International Oyster Chef of the Year competition at the Boothbay Harbor Oceanside Golf Resort.
On Friday, June 14 and Saturday June 15, experience the Tour de Source and Open Houses, across the Damariscotta region. This year we have expanded our behind the scenes look at the Damariscotta oyster community by two days. Meet the oyster farmers, and tour and taste your way around the bounty of the Damariscotta River. Experience local oyster farms, local food and beverage producers, the latest aquaculture innovations, and historic oyster middens.
On Saturday, June 15, the Damariscotta Oyster Celebration culminates with oyster shuckers from top restaurants in the United Sates and Canada going head-to-head in a timed competition for the Can-Am Shuck Star. The competition will be hosted in Damariscotta at the Damariscotta River Association’s Round Top Farm with the celebration including more oyster tasting, beverage pairings, and music.
