Midcoast Craft, right on Main Street in Wiscasset, is offering a variety of classes starting this week. Take a six week pottery class or enjoy a Friday evening speciality class. See the list of options below.
Clay Classes – 6 Weeks
Intro to Throwing – $240
This class focuses on the fundamentals of the pottery wheel. Students will be shown the proper techniques of wedging, centering, and pulling up a wall. Other areas of focus are the drying and finishing of ceramic wares. The small class size allows for attentive instruction. (3 Students)
Handbuilding – $190
Students will form clay by hand and with the use of simple tools. Focus will be placed on the nature of clay as a material, the drying process, proper techniques of making slabs, and slab construction. (6 Students)
September Workshops – 1 Day 5:30 – 9:00 pm
Papercut Home Portrait – $45 – Friday, September 6th
Students will learn how to use positive and negative space to create an architectural portrait. Paper cutting requires a steady hand and patience, but the result is as impressive as it is delicate. (6 Students)
Papercut Pressed Floral – $50 – Friday, September 20th
Using layers of hand cut paper, students will create a composition reminiscent of pressed flowers and foliage. The workshop fee includes a frame for the finished piece. (6 Students)
Intro Linoleum Blockprinting – $48 – Friday, September 13th or 27th
An introduction to carving a linoleum block for printing. Students will receive guidance designing a graphic image, transferring the image to the block, safely cutting the design and printing. Final prints may need to be left to dry, and can be picked up at any time during gallery hours. (6 Students)
